Living in Solidarity
Living in Solidarity
Often we pity the poor from afar; but Jesus went among the needy, eating, living, and connecting with them on a deeply personal level. Five young Catholics and Brother Mark Hilton reflect on their experiences standing with the less fortunate and on the value of living in solidarity.

Catechetical Sunday
Catechetical Sunday
“Matrimony: Sacrament of Enduring Love” is the theme of Catechetical Sunday 2010 which is observed this year throughout the United States on September 19. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate the baptismal call of all the faithful to serve others and the specific call to the ministry of catechesis. Parents as the first teachers of the faith, are the primary catechists of their children. Those called to be catechists within the parish partner with parents in handing on the faith. The whole parish community shares in and supports this awesome task through liturgical celebrations, faith formation opportunities, service to those most in need and all other aspects of parish life.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) designed this year’s materials to help pastors, families, catechists, marriage preparation leaders, school teachers, youth ministers, and others to deepen their understanding of the Sacrament of Matrimony. The materials may be used throughout the year and are designed to bring hope and encouragement to all couples and families.

Parish and school staff should take a moment to review some of the following articles, materials, and guidelines that focus on child and teen safety:
